Subject: Protect Core Community Services
Dear Members of the Assembly,
I’m writing as a Juneau resident to ask you to prioritize core community services in the FY2027 budget.
I know these are difficult decisions, and I don’t pretend to have all the answers—but I do know what kind of community I want to live in.
I want libraries and museums and swimming pools. I want well-supported schools, arts programs, and grants. I want a community that invests in connection, creativity, and opportunity for its residents.
Please protect funding for:
- Arts organizations and arts grants (including the city museum)
- Community support grants for local nonprofits and programs
- Year-round public recreation and outdoor spaces like our pools and arboretum
- [Other funding requests you have]
These programs support a broad range of residents and play an essential role in Juneau’s quality of life, local economy, and community wellbeing.
As you evaluate cuts, I encourage you to prioritize services with the greatest community impact and that serve the widest range of residents.
